Applique Radieuse

Le Corbusier,
1962
Wall Sconce – Design Icon – Le Corbusier Reissue – 5 Colors Architect and genius designer, Le Corbusier designed the Unité d’Habitation in Marseille, a residence constructed between 1945 and 1952. Through this groundbreaking building, Le Corbusier aimed to realize a new form of urban living: a “vertical village” called the “Unité d’Habitation.” The Unité d’Habitation is now classified as a historical monument. Le Corbusier even designed the lamps for the apartments in his city. In 1949, he created the Applique Radieuse for the entrances of the apartments. Inspired by the industrial lighting of the time, this curved sheet metal sconce is a symbol of 1950s modernism. Le Corbusier designed the Applique Radieuse to provide maximum efficiency while concealing the light source from view. The sconce can be mounted in either direction to provide upward or downward lighting. The Applique Radieuse is available in five colors (white, red, orange, blue, and green). Made in Italy.
