The Ensō lamp by Catellani & Smith, designed by Enzo Catellani, is a sculptural piece inspired by the Zen circle “ensō”, symbolizing enlightenment and completeness. Handcrafted in Italy, it features a metal structure hand-painted in deep blue, resting on a brass base. Its designer, Enzo Catellani, says of it:
“I was lucky enough to spend a period of my life in Japan, where I had the opportunity to take part in calligraphy lessons. It was a total discovery. Even today, I continue to practice this art, trying to find the essence of these slow, precise gestures. The Ensō, the symbol of the circle, particularly fascinated me for what it represents: illumination, fullness, everything, nothing. It was then that it seemed only natural to seek to give a three-dimensional aspect to this gesture.”
The indirect LED light (11×1.6W, 2700K, CRI>90, 1749 lm) emanates from the rear, creating a soft and calming ambiance. An integrated dimmer on the cable allows precise light intensity adjustment. With a height of 66 cm and a base measuring 25 x 15 cm, Ensō seamlessly fits into contemporary spaces, adding a touch of elegance and serenity.
